Unpacking my First Book Box
I am quite impressed with the YA Chronicles book box – the book seems very promising and the items are fun and diverse! Would recommend this box to anyone looking to add an element of surprise to his or her to-read cue! Plus the bookish items are creative and I’m a sucker for supporting independent businesses!
What’s going on?
So, after my “10 book boxes you need in your life” post, I ended up purchasing the October book box, themed “Against all Odds”, from The YA Chronicles. It took about 2 weeks to get to me, but today I happily accepted the box from a rather confused Japanese postman! (My Japanese is horrendous, so I usually just speak English, which always catches people off guard; many Japanese people speak English very well, although they insist that they do not…! Anyway, the point is I managed to get him to release the box into my custody! ;P )
The Box
I knew immediately what the package was from the box! Side note: I love the logo for the YA Chronicles, it’s simple but catches your attention! Also, the packaging inside the box was nice too, the blue wrapping paper was very pretty!
Okay, no more stalling, you probably want to know what was in the box! Well, true to the description found on the website, I was provided with one book, 3 bookish items and a YA Chronicles bookmark; as pictures below.
The Contents
The book I got was Holding up the Universe by Jennifer Niven, author of All the Bright Places. The little book blurb sounds favorable; an unlikely friendship which helps both people grow and become better – it has all the makings of a solid feel-good YA contemporary read. I’m really looking forward to reading it! Also the cover is really nice, I love the blue circles on the white background, it pops really nicely!
The items included with the book were; one, an exclusive behindthepages manon lip balm which smells so delicious and has left my lips feeling quite soft! I’m usually a Blistex-only kind of girl, so it’s quite a feat that this balm has won me over! The colour of the tube is gorgeous though the lip balm colour is rather off-putting; dark grey, but it seems to work well, so I can get past the questionable hue.
The second item was a Camp Half-blood necklace, which I am not crazy about…it’s a bit too flashy for my liking, but it seems to be decent quality; who knows, maybe I’ll give it a try!
The third and final item in the box was a Six of Crows temporary tattoo that is absolutely gorgeous; incredibly detailed and intricate. I hope all the parts of the flash tattoo will stick on well!
Final Thoughts
All in all, I am very happy with my decision to order a YA Chronicles book box! Holding up the Universe seems like my kind of book - can’t wait to get to know the characters; and the items that came with the book are well varied and seem to be good quality!
So, what are your impressions of this box? Leave a comment! Will you consider buying the next YA Chronicles book box? The November theme is Wonderland; very tempting!!
